'The Dream Lives On' fundraising event, 4th September 2010, Wales PDF Print E-mail
ImageThe town of Machynlleth in mid Wales resounded once again to the music, dance and colour of Latin America for 'The Dream Lives On' evening that took place on September 4th. 'The Dream Lives On' festivals are inspired by the legendary Victor Jara of Chile: a visionary musician and theatre director who was tortured and murdered following the military coup of September 11th 1973.

Italian songstress Silvia Balducci presented her beautiful versions of some of Victor's songs. She was accompanied by brilliant young charanguista Fernando Toro. Rompiendo Fronteras is a recently formed band fronted by Bolivian multi-instrumentalist Milton Flores. Chilean Sergio Lagos presented a homage to Salvador Allende and local band Cloud Cuckoo provided some lively dance music later in the evening. Baila Peru provided the real fire and magic to the evening with 2 stunningly beautiful and transcendent dance sequences.

A late night singsong around a bonfire rounded off the evening and we are all looking forward to next event on 12, 13, 14th August 2011.Image Tony Corden
