"La capital británica es una de las ciudades globales de nuestra era y en ella las manifestaciones culturales más variadas tienen lugar con creciente intensidad. Es por ello una satisfacción muy particular que “Baila Perú” haya representado con su reconocida calidad los valores de la cultura peruana en la celebración del Año Nuevo Chino este domingo en el centro de Londres. Felicitaciones!" JULIO GARRO GALVEZ, Cónsul General del Perú en Londres

"It was an honour to represent my country and ancestors of the Inca Empire. The parade brought together two great cultures: Chinese and Inca as part of the celebration of the Chinese New Year. I felt very proud to wear one of our traditional costumes from my land 'Cuzco'. I enjoyed dancing and the feeling of togetherness. An experience I will never forget." Paloma Palomino - Warmi (Parade Performer)

The parade featured the 12 Zodiac animals of the Chinese Astrology and our performance was introduced by the 'Horse'.

"It was a huge pleasure to take part in one of the most important celebrations and one of the world's oldest civilizations, China. Inter-cultural events are very important to build a genuine sense of brotherhood with ancient civilizations in our Pachamama (Mother Earth)." Phaxsi Coca - Warmi (Parade Performer)

"Photos are fantastic and it is great to see some 'ojotas' being worn on the streets of London!" Fred Branson

"It was an amazing experience, for both the Chinese and Peruvian community as one in this magnificent parade. For me, it's a great pleasure and joy to dance for my country and show its amazing culture." Ricardo Butron (Parade Performer)

Reflections by Svetoslav N. Roerich

Svetoslav N. Roerich

Those beautiful moments of our life are like beautiful stars shining in the firmament of our existence, each one beautiful, each one unique and unrepeatable.

Spellbound is a weak word to describe the sensation that grows in one from the feeling of wonder at the realisation of the beauty, harmony and perfect balance of nature's manifestations.

Every moment of our life we are surrounded by infinite miracles of nature and that sense of inspiration and transport is ours for only a small effort to understand and appreciate that, which is so lavishly spread before us by the bountiful hand of nature. Beautiful flowers, beautiful birds and insects, beautiful, intricate symmetries of crystals, the play of light on distant clouds and mountain peaks ever beckoning to us and revealing harmonies of transcendental beauty. Svetoslav Roerich

Amazonian mix dance by Baila Peru
Image

This dance is a mix of three Amazonian rhythms from the Peruvian rainforest for which Baila Perú have developed collectively a fresh choreography that represents joy, sensuality, unity and our connection with nature.

Music, songs and dance are part of ceremonies and rituals.  Voices, imitations of jungle animal sounds, and stamping of the feet are accompanied by various instruments such as drums, panpipes, flutes and musical bows.

Our performance includes some images and ornaments to take you in a virtual journey to the jungle, where the jaguar is a symbol of power and courage and the fire a symbol of spiritual strength and protection.

Through our dance we want to acknowledge and pay homage to our ancestors for their wisdom, knowledge and respect to Mother Earth.  We want to dedicate this dance to the indigenous communities in Perú and the rest of the world.
